Concerned individuals and parents of children with cerebral palsy established United Cerebral Palsy of Delaware,Inc. (UCP) in 1953. This small group hoped to raise the public’s awareness and understanding of the special needs of children with this disability.
Over the years, UCP has expanded its capabilities by providing programs and services to people with all types of orthopedic disabilities, including spina bifida and muscular dystrophy. Today, UCP of Delaware, Inc. is a statewide organization providing a variety of social, residential, recreational and educational programs, as well as referral, advocacy and respite care services to over 600 clients and their families throughout New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties.
What started with parents and friends is today a statewide organization dedicated to community living and community integration.
